Scaling up SAF: The role of financial institutions

SAF, or Sustainable Aviation Fuel, has emerged as one of the key levers available to support the clean energy transition for the aviation industry. What role can financial institutions play in the adoption and scaleup of SAF? Will they get behind the adoption required to make SAF an effective solution in the years to come?

Yevgeniya (Gene) Levitin, Natixis CIB Head of Aviation Americas, discusses the topic with Paul Briggs of Bird & Bird on the Aviation, Aerospace & Defence Pioneers Podcast series. In addition to SAF, the conversation explores other sustainability concerns and developments including greenwashing and sustainability-linked loans, as well as capital investment, funding, and policy trends from the private and public sectors.

"For aviation, at scale, SAF is clearly the largest lever we have to drive sustainability. Focusing on SAF and determining a scalable financing solution to support it is something the industry will have to home in on."
